It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of pregnancies, it was the age of babies, it was the epoch of boys, it was the epoch of girls, it was the season of Light and cuteness, it was the season of Darkness and excrement in diapers … oh yes, oh baby, baby…

First up is Olivia. I didn’t really know how to describe my relation to her, BUT I looked it up on Wikipedia and have discovered that she is my second-cousin-once-removed. This means that her mother (Pearl) is my second cousin, since she and I share the same great-grandparents because her mother and my father are cousins, because her grandfather is my grandfather’s brother… Yes, that is my explanation of who this baby is. Baby Olivia, eight months old, my second-cousin-once removed, who came to visit with Pearl, here shown with my Sour Patch doll… They look uncannily alike, huh.

Olivia’s favorite toy at our house was our multi-colored Chinese checkers set.

She looks just like her dad, Carolus. It’s actually funny how striking the resemblance is.

Look at her cute little pierced ears.

Master of bizarre facial expressions.

Hey kid, I like Paris too! (but sadly, have never been…)

Here comes the other baby – CJ! Do you remember him? He is now over two months old! Amazing! Growing up so fast! Esther (his mommy) carries him in the cutest little peanut shell carrier.

This is the day I took more pictures of Olivia and then CJ came over to play.

Pearl got the most adorable set of stuffed cupcakes from Pottery Barn for Olivia. I am definitely going to buy cute Pottery Barn things for my kids … if I don’t buy them for myself first…

Cupcakes are wickedly fun to play with … (better to eat, actually)

I have a thing for lines and symmetry.

“Why’d you ruin the natural entropy of things?!”

“I want yo’ camera!” (No, she really did!)

Olivia with my mommy.
Oh so one cool thing – when I was about 7 or 8 months old, Olivia’s mommy Pearl, who was then 18, came over to California from Canada and took care of me. Now I’m almost 18 and Olivia, here is 8 months old – how Garcia-Marquez-One Hundred Years-of-Solitude-Isabel-Allende-House-of-Spirits-intergenerational-weaving-and-coincidentally-reoccurring is that?! Very.

Esther brought CJ over so he could see new sights and we tried to tickle him with Olivia’s cupcakes.

He really enjoyed holding it.

Yay! We made him laugh. How absolutely endearing is that little grin!?

Esther and Annie also came over to play. CJ basically had a triple play date! So in total, it was like a quadruple play date. And if you count his mommy, a quintuple! And if you count Olivia, a hextuple… if that is a word.

What sounds do turtles make?

Wah wah wah.
We also took some pictures on my MacBook. Quite good craic.

Staring out into outer space…

Staring out into a black hole…

“Momma and me!”

BABIES R US!!!~!
